The Lagos Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has revealed that it generated N170.4 billion within the space of 5 months.
This information was made known by the Area Comptroller, Mohammed Abba-Kura, on Monday, who briefed the press on how the division made N143.1 billion between January and May, in 2018. He further stated that the command had a month to month target of about N31.046 billion in 2019.
What was responsible for this achievement? He revealed that the command was able to achieve the tremendous feat as a result of the commitment of staff. He went further to say that he has been able to maintain a 100% structure set by his predecessor.
“We maintained the structure on existing techniques set up by my predecessor, Comptroller Bashir Abubakar, with the 100% examination alongside video and pictures.The direction had likewise blocked all income leakages and taking part in steady partnership meetings and prompt resolutions of conflict by Dispute Resolution Committee.”
Mohammed also mentioned that the command has improved overtime on capacity building for both the officers and stakeholders.
“We have increased level of compliance among the stakeholders and also there is room for open door policy in the command.”
He urged all stakeholders to improve on the honest declaration and documentation in order to enable the Nigerian Custom Service Management achieve its set aim of trade facilitation.
This is important because honest documentation will guarantee an easy clearance process and the timely release of cargo in line with the ease of doing business mandate of the Nigeria Federal Government.
“At the moment we are recording 48-hour cargo clearance on honest documentation but our target is to clear cargo within 24-hour.”
The baseline of this is that revenue generation and remittance by the MDAs to the Federation Account will impact positively on the Nigerian economy.
