Who is the target audience for this product? Where do they live? What are they using now? How do they decide on a detergent brand?

Names and taglines should tap into the mindset of the target audience. They are more aligned with target audience needs and desired benefits than they are to what YOU want to do or what the product itself is.

Tell us about your target audience and its attitudes, habits, practices, needs, beliefs, values, and the words they use when they describe their unmet needs.

Finally, the name (and tagline) should come AFTER you have a business plan and an overall marketing strategy. Otherwise it's likely to be sub-optimal when you're ready to go to market.

Since it's a homework project, how would it benefit your education long-term for us to do the homework for you? The best advice we can likely give you is more education on how to develop a name & tagline for your product.

You're trying to sell an eco-friendly detergent to the middle-class. Presumably, they're already using a competitor's product. So why would they want to switch to your new one? What doesn't their detergent do that they care about? There are other eco-friendly detergents available - what is noticeably different about yours? That's where I'd start the naming homework.

Next time, be more open about what you are up to; you won't get any less help (in fact you will probably get more!).

When you are studying, think hard about who you are selling to. What do they want and what difficulties are they facing? Oh, and remember that there are few truly "eco" detergents, there are labels that tell you that something is eco because they can claim it by law. That is very different from it being something that does not damage the environment at all. Remember that any industrial production process uses a lot of energy, not all of which is "green". (You are speaking to an eco-warrior ... ).

Now: As Jay says, they are already using something. Just Google up Rosser Reeve for some inspiration. His stuff dates back to the dark ages - sorry that should read "pre internet" - it is more powerful now than it ever was. It should answer a few questions for you!

I wish you well with your studies. Remember in marketing you never stop learning. Your certification is a beginning not an end.

    To your success, Gemma xx

"Middle class" is a pretty broad audience. Where do they live? What kind of laundry loads are they doing? How frequently? Since you are not going to sell your detergent to everyone in the middle class, perhaps you can narrow the target somewhat. The more precisely you define your audience, the more likely you are to be able to address their needs in a way that's important to them.
