Name For A Beeswax Cream W/ Profits To A Charity

Posted by odelldavidh on 125 Points
I have an all natural homemade face and body cream made from beeswax, and am looking for a clever business name!

Here's the kicker...all profits go to a charity my family supports called Helping Hands Monkey Helpers for the Disabled. This amazing nonprofit raises and trains capuchin monkeys to provide daily, live-in assistance to people living with spinal cord injuries or other mobility impairments. And yes we have a picture of a monkey on the label!

We'd like to tie something monkey related into the name, along with something bee/honey/beeswax related.

Thanks!

(Aside: your desire to connect monkeys to your customer base may be confusing at first glance, since people won't immediately understand that the product sold is for human use nor understand how a monkey's face connects to human beauty.)

    Capuchin Cream
    Monkey Face
    Bee a Monkey
    Go Ape For Beauty

Thanks Jay. Agreed, we're planning to keep the brand name smaller on the packaging, and will highlight that it's "beeswax Face & body cream". The packaging is yellow and has a bee on it, similar to Burts Bees, so we're hoping that will help not confuse people.

FYI: target customer is friends, family, farmers market attendees, and whole foods type crowd that wants an all natural solution, but works equally as well as expensive face creams.

I think to tell the story you'll need a name and a tagline. I thought of Tom's shows; one to one. get a pair, give a pair.

So my ideas would be coupled with a corresponding tagline.

    B2U
    Hivelove
    Hive 2 help
    Golden kiss
    kiss
    kiss of kindness
    reciprocate
    4theHive
    Hive2Tribe
    Helping Hands Honey Cream
    Drop of love
    Drop of Honey
    Sweet Charity
    Charity Cream
    Cheek 2 Cheek

"A kiss of love from your hands to others"
"A kiss of honey supports others in need"
"Every drop helps others in need"
"Get a little, give a lot."

Save the monkey for an element in the branding. It's too much to try and explain in the name itself.

Does your target audience associate beeswax with face and body cream? It seems like a stretch, but then I'm not in your target audience.

You are trying to marry 3 different concepts: (1) beeswax, (2) face/body cream, and (3) service monkeys. Too big a stretch IMHO. Pick one and really nail it. The others can be covered in small print on the back of the package and in your spiel.

My vote would be "great face/body cream" with some description of the benefit. (Does it moisturize, clarify, tighten/firm, make you look younger, improve complexion, etc.?) If that's the most important benefit for your target audience, they will buy it, regardless of the ingredient or what you do with the money after you have it. If they don't value the benefit, they are not likely to buy, even if someone they don't know might be helped by a service monkey.

I appreciate the responses doublebbogue and mgoodman! Great ideas all around.

mgoodman - to answer your questions, some people do understand the benefits of beeswax. Burt's Bees has certainly made it much more popular and recognized as a beneficial ingredient. However, not everyone understand the advantages of beeswax, and there is a certain element of education that needs to occur.

I'd say our target audience is the "whole foods" customer, someone who is concerned with chemical ingredients and is looking for all natural solutions. We won't be located in CVS or high end salons, mainly online and farmers markets.

It seems like every cream out there talks about moisturizing, firming, healing etc. I'm hoping to find a way to stand out and my thoughts are that if we have a cute name involving something with monkeys, and people see a picture of a monkey on the label, it'll draw them in to read more.

The "monkey connection" seems inappropriate to me. What you'd like to do is attract attention with something that's relevant (to your product) and meaningful to your target audience. It's a real struggle to see what the monkey symbol has to do with what you are really selling.

I might expect folks who are attracted by a monkey to hit the back-button when they realize your site really has nothing to do with monkeys. On the other hand, someone who is attracted by the promise of younger-looking skin (for example) will likely stay to read about the magic ingredient that makes the promise credible and perhaps even the way their purchase might benefit disabled individuals.

BTW, there's quite a bit of evidence that the "portion of proceeds go to charity" approach does NOT itself motivate the purchase, nor do the majority of people care what you do with their money after it's yours.

mgoodman - Understood, appreciate the insight and feedback. Agreed on all accounts, i'll keep thinking on it but will likely steer in your direction.
