Help With An Existing Paint Co. Tag Line

Posted by dave on 275 Points
I have an existing Paint & Pressure Washing company in the Tampa Bay area. I have recently started using internet marketing for the local area and am need of a tag line for my company. Our name is MPM Painting & Pressure Washing. We started out as a maintenance company which is how we derived the name MPM from Morgan's Property Maintenance. But because it sounded too much like a lawn service we changed it to MPM. We do both Commercial and Residential service for Painting and Pressure Washing. Could use some help.

    Phil,

Thank you for your quick response. I certainly will keep your suggestion in mind. My partner seems to feel that if there was a way to tag the MPM with some clever verbage that it might be able to help draw the company name in to memory. I would appreciate your thoughts and comments when you have the time.

Why do you need to hang on to the MPM at all? It's an initialization of a business name (Morgan's Property Maintenance) that you didn't like.

I would not worry so much about a tag line.

Why not just call the business "Morgan's Painting and Pressure Washing"? (Underneath you can put "Residential & Commercial".)

My take as a consumer is that I don't care about the name or the tag line. I want someone who answers their phone, returns calls, keeps appointments, looks professional, and can give me references.

I'm also not convinced that you need to work hard at being memorable. When people want a painter or pressure washer, they don't go into their brain vault and try to remember someone they heard about before. (At least I don't...)

They either go to the Web and search, read the Yellow Pages, or ask a friend, and then they start calling a short list of candidates.

    My $0.02.

Thank you for your 0.02. The reason we are hanging on to the MPM is because all of our licenses and our LLC is recorded as such (kind of a legal thing). It would be quite costly and an administrative night mare to have every thing changed. Not to mention that all of our other marketing (except for a tag line) is set up under the MPM.

    Randall,

Thank you for your useful feedback. I didn't realize that trying to come up with a good tag line can be so difficult. Maybe I'll talk with some of my customers and get some feed back from them.

    Jay,

Thank you very much. You hit it dead on. I am going to use your suggestion of "We Make Great First Impressions". I ran it by my partner (she loves it). Also asked some of my clients and friends. They seem to think it will work very well.

I am going to close out this question. I would like to thank all that participated. This is a great forum for folks that need help with marketing. I'm sure I'll be back.
