Topic: Website Critique

Black And White Marketing

Posted by ReadCopy on 250 Points
I would like a critique from you guys, I know I am opening myself to a harpooning here, but I would like to get my site right.

The 'home' landing page really doesn't sell my services (but I will be working on it), I just I just want feedback on the general look and theme ... unfortunately (or fortunately) my business name does slightly restrict my colour palette!

The main landing page (or index) is https://blackwhite.uk.com
I have started to promote a FREE Toolkit more and more ... that landing page is https://blackwhite.uk.com/free.htm

Thanks

    Some first impressions, Andrew...

I actually LIKE the black and white theme, but I think the home page would give it more oomph if it were even more minimalistic. (Is that a word?)

Underneath the title "black and white marketing," you should put a small-text tagline like "because business should be that simple."

Your horizontal menu shouldn't have drop-down choices. Just make them straight links to new pages that have the subtopics clearly labeled. On the home page, get rid of the Home link. On all other pages, get rid of the Information link and distribute those topics between the About and Services pages. (I hope what I said makes sense.)

You can probably get rid of 60-70% of the text on your home page. I won't tell you how to rewrite it here. Maybe we can talk about it offline. If you want some serious copywriting help, I'm a cheap date. ;]

That's all the harpooning for now... but I really like what you've started with.

ps. I just finished a black and white website with tasteful accents of red and yellow (ketchup and mustard?). A completely different type of business, but you can see it at www.bayoucityservices.com if you're curious.

    Hi Andrew,

i agree with the comments given by site-report.

20 word maximum for meta tags. anymore and you might get banned from search engines.

You also should have an Alt tag on your images.

you might want to get your site bobby level one approved, i am not sure about the UK, but ALL sites in New Zealand MUST be level one bobby compliant. Plus being compliant means you are more search engine friendly :) and that is what you want.

    https://bobby.watchfire.com/bobby/html/en/index.jsp

( when i tried to run your site in bobby it could not find it.)

You also might want to separate the CSS in to another file to Clean up the code. Then test that is correct here:

    https://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/

and you also might want to run your whole site past the WC3 standards.

    https://validator.w3.org/

Sorry i don’t have time to have a good look, but the site does not do it for me. It seems boring.

...but i like the fact that you a spread firefox banner on your page. FireFox Rules, it is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than IE.

yes, i think it shows that he is willing to "think out side the box", not to rely just on the industry standard but go further to get the job done “right” not just adequately.
