Imageshare Web Site Needs Full Critique & Help!

Posted by Anonymous on 2000 Points
Hi,

We have a web site www.ImageShareMe.com. This site is basically providing the following features :

1. Get your own domain name and host your Images on your own domain name, alternatively the user can also use a long url (not personalised domain name) from us i.e. yourname.imageshareme.com .

2. Choose your domain page template and get a free design for your personal web site.

3. Upload your Images and share them with friends and family.

4. Order prints and other memorebilia with your Images i.e. mugs, mousepads etc etc.

5. The site has Capability to send Images to your own domain name to a publically shared folder via your Mobile Phone.

In Phase two we plan to add:

1. Sharing of Web Designs
2. Sharing of Videos
3. Sharing of Ideas

So like a complete share web site.

What we require is as under:

1. Web Critique for the complete web site if you come as a user to the web site directly i.e. via the URL www.ImageShareMe.com .

You will need to sign up as a user.

2. Web Site and Functionality Critique the application we have made for Nokia phones users to register using their own free domain name using activation cards they get free with purchase of a Nokia NSeries Phone.

Located at url : https://nokia.tq6.com

You may use Activation Codes as follows :

aa00 0000 0000 0000 14

to

aa00 0000 0000 0000 30

3. Design Critique for the Design of the web site - we actually think the web site design is not very user friendly and should be updated.

4. Content suggestions and content critique - we feel and lot needs to be done here.

Once the above is done we need suggestions on people we could consult / work with who could offer us the following services :

1. Good content writers
2. Web / Online functionality user and site Designer
3. Good Web Site and Software tester.

Hope this helps if you have questions do not hesitate to mail me [email address deleted by staff].

regards

Rachel

PS : as a good will gesture for people who provide us really good feedback we will let them keep their domain and space on ImageShare for free :-) !

Having problems logging onto your site at the moment, but as it's in development I that could be a good enough reason for it to be down from time to time!

When its back up and working, I'll take a look, but as I usually pay for this type of service, I will not be able to provide a full Critique, I'm sure you understand :-)

btw, whilst you will get some useful feedback by having your question here, may I suggest you post a project too (https://www.marketingprofs.com/ea/pfh_addco.asp), you should get more interest and better feedback.

    Thanks

    Dear Rachel

Before we go into your website again, can I just let you know that your email address must come from your Biography; we don’t include email addresses in the body text for a number of sensible reasons, not least the harvesting of them for SPAM purposes. Pleases amend your Bio before Val or one of the other moderators removes it from the text.

Best wishes and here’s to you receiving some useful critiques.

    Home:

I'll concur with other folks in saying that the home page loaded slowly. Subsequent pages were, naturally, quicker.

I assumed that the six images toward the bottom were hot and was disappointed to get nada with a click.

I like the cleanliness of the design. When I look at it, this is what I immediately thought: here's a place I can save all my images (thus back up from my hard drive), share them with other people and maybe do some editing.

I think the copy is a little rough. In fact, the typo in "memorabilia's" drives me nuts. It just doesn't need the apostrophe and "s."

    The rest:

Past that, the site started to feel very boring. Lots of text. The same main image/frame over and over. I felt like I wanted some variety.

LOGIN is easy to find. I appreciate that. I use a major bank's site that doesn't keep their LOGIN in a logical or visible place.

I think the navigation is pretty simple. That's good. I think I could get what I needed by looking at the very top. Seems like any information is just a few clicks away.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I could sell or buy images. Is it a problem that I didn't get that from the home page?

Thanks for putting your Google ads at the bottom. I see them, but they don't interfere.

The affiliate idea is nice to help push the Viral Aspect of a site.

The idea of a redirect from your initial domain name to the tq6 annoys me. Anytime I get a redirect, it smells of spam site, or something devious going on. Had it happen already from more than a few blog comment spammers, and it is REALLY getting under my skin. That could also hurt your page rank or possible banning from Search Engines.

The idea of selling images as stock is a neat twist. I sell stock, gets my attention...but where are your TOS for that? You had better get your copyright disclaimers in place, and develop an entire set of standards of what constitutes quality Stock, and have a review team and training system set up. BigStockPhoto, Fotolia, Istock all have a rigorous screening program in place.

Can I upload images FROM my cell phone directly to your site? Is it WAP enabled?

All in all, a clean design, and visually appealing. I like it.

I consult with a focus group for cell phone users, and we are always on the look out for new ways to test cell phones. Maybe we could hook up and do a joint project?

RE: critique criteria - yes, a copywriter and a designer would be beneficial, but first you need to round out a couple issues.

    1. brand / brand narrative: who does the copy and design target and what "tone" do you want to take, how are you positioning yourself? It looks like a b2b site which I don't think is your intent. Planning and sketching this out ahead of time will pay huge dividends in the end. Clearly paint a picture of your brand.

    2. site architecture: xHTML and CSS will help with page weight, search engines, usability, readable text.

    3. copy writing: write for the web. Scan reading, white space, etc

    4. your biggest issue: how are you going to diferentiate yourself from Flickr. Flickr is $25 USD for a year of unlimited storage, 2GB of uploads per month, email from phone, online printing options, etc... great user interface, lots of industry buzz. This will impact #1 (above).

Two immediate thoughts - SIGN UP button in your main navigation on your main site is key. Also, users will trade usability issues for a good user experience. Photo sharing should be a fun, clever experience... and the photos are the star of the show. Flickr is so strong in this area.

Brand opportunities are most often overlooked in the copy (and the easiest place to leverage your brand)... so it's great that you are going to focus there.

Email me your contact details and I will forward to a couple contacts - have you tried LinkedIn? Good web content writers are hard to come by.
