Riddle: Simply a mind-trick using words as bait.

Here's a good one for you:

What row of numbers comes next?

    1
    11
    21
    1211
    111221
    312211
    13112221

    Cal-

    The answer is "nothing".

    Michele:

    1. A man (or human)

    Amanda:

Turn on all the switches, leave them on for say..10 minutes. Then turn each swith off in 5 minute intervals. Once complete, go into the room with the light bulbs and check the relevent temperatures with your hand. The coolest one is the first swicth, the warmest one is the last switch, then, by deduction, you know the third.

    Parkhe:

I can send you some puzzles. Shoot me an email.

I'm still working on the others.

Tell me if I am wrong!

    Answer to my riddle above:

    The next row is

    1113213211

Starting with the second line, every line describes the line before it. In writing, it is:
    One One
    Two Ones
    One Two One One
    etc.
    etc.

This is a classic. I really love it. It has a long description, but stick with me because it's worth it.

There are 4 people who need to cross a narrow bridge at night with only one torch.

The four people each have different travelling times:

Person 1 crosses in 1 minute
Person 2 crosses in 2 minutes
Person 1 crosses in 5 minutes
Person 1 crosses in 10 minutes

Only two people can cross at a time and one person has to come back over the bridge to give the torch to the others still waiting to cross.

While crossing, you have to use the slowest time of the two people because they have to walk the same pace.

You have to add the person who comes back to your total time.

They need to cross in 17 minutes. How?

    Here's an example:

    5 and 10 go over (that's 10 minutes) and then 5 comes back with the torch (that's a total of 15 minutes). Then 5 and 2 go over (that's 20 minutes---and you're already over the time limit . . . )

How can you get all four people to the other side in 17 minutes?

Note that there is a logical answer. It won't be anything like "they can throw the torch to the other side instead of walking it over", or "they can all wait till sunrise", or "why don't they jog over and increase their times", etc!

    mariejulie, you're right.

    1 and 2 go over
    1 comes back
    5 and 10 go over
    2 comes back
1 and 2 go over once again.

congrats! not too many people actually get this one right, even though the answer is obvious when you figure it out. (or when someone tells you, which, to be truthful, was my situation!)

I have one similar to Ricky's...

A man and his donkey (carrying a load of carrots) are standing aside a river, about to cross.

Suddenly a lion appears at the water's edge as well. The lion requests the man's assistance to cross the river.

The man has a dilemma. You see, there is a raft attached to a rope and pulley system only he can operate (for obvious reasons). In addition, he can only take one passenger at a time, including the carrots.

He can't take the lion first because the donkey will eat the carrots. Likewise, he can't take the carrots first because the lion will eat the donkey. This holds true for the reverse as well. He cannot allow any of the above circumstances on either side of the river.

How do they manage to cross safely?

Hint: There is a logical answer to this as well. The circumstances are nothing obscure like "African lions are rarely near donkeys and don't fancy them.." or "donkeys are allergic to carrots..", etc.

Take everything as I stated it. Only the man and one passenger (the carrots count as one passenger) can cross at a time, lions love to eat donkeys and donkeys love to eat carrots...and they all have to cross the river.

Jett, what's the answer to yours?

    Answer:

    1. He takes the donkey to the other side first.

    2. Then goes back for the carrots.

    3. When he drops off the carrots, he takes the donkey back to the original side. The donkey is dropped off and the lion is picked up.

    4. The lion is taken to the other side of the river and dropped off with the carrots.

    5. Finally, he goes back to pick up the donkey, crosses the river, and they all go about their business.

The answer to the twin riddle is that the ice cubes are poisoned. The slow drinker's ice melted in his drink, whereas the fast drinker didn't give enough time for the ice to melt
