Suggestions For Paid Email Or Hosting Service

Posted by telemoxie on 500 Points
Generally speaking, I prefer to pay for things. I know there are, "free" options for email. But as they say, nothing is free. There are strings attached. There are privacy concerns. The email address you want is often already taken.

My current email provider is raising their rates, and I need to find another option. I may need to go with Gmail or Yahoo, or something similar, but I would like to shop around a bit first.

Do you know of a hosting service which will allow me to have a variety of email addresses for my own domain at a reasonable price? Do you know of a professional (i.e. pay for service) and affordable email provider? Thanks in advance.

I also have been using 1and1 for a long time for my hosting. Stated when they had a free offer, and just staid with them.

Most of my email from there I forward to Gmail. This mixes well with some consulting work I do for another who uses Gmail, so it all is accessible in the same place. And Gmail's spam filters have been awesome (way back when, I switched from yahoo to Gmail because Yahoo's spam filters at that time were not any good).

I read email on my computer using Outlook downloaded from the Gmail accounts. By running it through Gmail, there is always a copy stored online for backup.

Pretty much any hosting company's cpanel will allow you to create a myriad of email addresses (mailboxes and/or forwarding addresses) for nothing extra. So, if you want your own domain name, pick a hosting company that has the right cost structure for you.

If you don't care about domain names, than there are many choices - but at a tradeoff (generally advertising added or seen).

In my opinion, if you're using the email address for business, then you're likely better served with a (purchased) domain name option.

Gmail has a paid option for businesses that includes custom domain usage, as long as you can validate that the domain is yours. It's inexpensive, accessible from anywhere, and so easy to set up!
