Building Clientele

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
My daughter is a new hair stylist. She apprenticed 6 months. Now she needs to build her client base. The salon is well established but is in an area with few walk-ins. What can she do to get more clients?

Stylists really get a lot of business word or mouth. She will have to start contacting everyone she knows to come in and get their hair done. The trick is to keep busy initially. If she is doing a great job the word will spread.

    hi there

the challenge for you is to create traffic flow to your store. you can do a lot of things to create traffic flow such as....

    1. publish some portfolio ads in some of the trendy magazine of men and women in your area, get the people to have an idea of your capabilities and styles.

    2. sponsor the hair stylizing of any happening event in your area like to local beauty pagent or American Idol. if you can make your mark in that event, there will be lot of buzz and will get loads of clients.

    3. organize a client-get-client contest, where any existing clients getting a new client will get a certain type of styling free

    4. tie up with anny leading hair styling item brand, like Dive, Sunsilk etc and use that brand's activation as your launching pad to get more customers

    5. based on your target customers and thier frequenting places, organize a mobile hair styling campaign in which your mobile styling saloon will storm that place and give some free styles to the winners of a contest on hair styling (to be organized by you as well for this campaign).

those are my 2 cents. hope this helps....

    cheers!!

I have two girls, and at times they have spent most of their hair has been for high school dances, particularly homecoming and proms. Would it be possible to schedule some sort of hair related event as a build up to a prom or other big party? For example, if a high school aged girl has a birthday in the spring, would it be possible for your daughter to arrange a party featuring wild hairdos? If the girls all got their hair done before some other party, this could create lots of buzz and word-of-mouth advertising.

I know that January is the time for bridal fairs... perhaps she could connect with some shows and pass out a flyer or business cards and build business that way. Also what about bridal shops.
Did the salon run a small ad in the local newspaper announcing her affiliation with the salon? She can also offer a % off service in this coupon.
Many "social groups" often look for guest speakers -- maybe she could give a short talk about styles or products.
