Using Friends Of Friends E-address

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I am working as marketing and pr assistant in a service company. One of my job is to generate leads for potential customers incl those from internet. I have a lot of friends, and of course they also have lots of friends. Can I use their email address in my email campaign? I know this sounds unethical. But please suggest a way to do it better. BTW, I don't have formal marketing education, just learning by doing, from books, and especially from MProfs. Thanks guys.

I suppose you could as long you include an Opt-out link.

The main problem I foresee is your friends and their frinds may not be within the target market of the services you are marketing, therefore it may be a waste of time.

Rather, I recommend contacting a targeted list broker like www.infousa.com.

    Good Luck!

Two research avenues you might check: the first is "Viral marketing". (a quick check "seach questions" in MarketingProfs word "viral" yielded over 100 hits - a Google search for "viral marketing" would yield much more.

You might also do a "search questions" on "Double Loop Marketing" - which seems to me to involve having information of interest to your target market as "bait"...

The idea is to send an email to folks you know, who will both find it of interest and will forward it to others, and so on, and so on...

By the way, it's nice having friends - and some of them may remain friends long after you have completed this assignment. Be careful not to abuse their friendship.
