Does Your Cpu Race When You're On The Forum?

Posted by Inbox_Interactive on 250 Points
I do not know why, but my desktop's CPU revs up like a race car any time I get on the forum to answer a question.

It's so bad that I can't even type an answer without waiting for the next character to appear.

(It's starting to do it right now, in fact.)

There is little doubt in my mind that there is a cause-effect here. Whenever I am on here, it races. As soon as I exit the page, it returns to normal.

Does this happen to you?

this sounds like an Internet Explorer problem to me.

    Try Firefox.

I can no longer browse this site with Internet explorer. I do not know if I have a virus, or if it is an Internet Explorer bug. But the site is much faster with Firefox, at least for me.

    Worth investigating!

Thanks, Dave...hope you're doing all right.

    All the best,

I'm on Firefox (with a Mac) and I've been having problems too. The letters appear oh so sloooowwwwly as I type. I've had to sit and wait and watch them.

However, it seems OK right now. (Maybe it's like when you're a kid having trouble with your jacket zipper; you figure out it two seconds after you yell for mom).

Yes, as of right now, this second, it's not doing it any more.

I wonder if a change was made to the site or how it serves advertisements.

It was OK, but now it's doing it again. It's hard to answer questions!

Thanks for the update. I have made a slight change to try to isolate the problem. Please post here if you continue to have usability issues. If you could also provide your browser version, if the problem continues, that would help too.

I found that an advert box or a response box just below the “Comment” space was causing problems in IE7 and to a lesser extent in Firefox.

I’ve just upgraded both but to get back to a reasonable speed on the site, I have had to disable some Active X add on programmes.

The PC’s are faster now under IE8 but the processor is still working overtime. The processes which gobble CPU and Memory are all system based, so I can’t turn them off through the task manager.

My main system is Windows XP, 2G memory and a fast processor. The laptops have a lesser problem on Vista, but it is still slower than it used to be.
