5yr Online Strategy! Whats Gonna Happen?

I want to put together a draft 5 year online strategy for a potential client (B2B and B2C).

They have not yet tapped the potential of the internet, they have a website, but there is no commerse or data capture on there, I know they want to start to look online to grow their sales.

Potentally looking at launching a number of niche retail and business sites (for partners etc)
Look at SEO
Online conversion

Some of the basics, SEO, PPC etc I understand. As for suggesting a 5 year strategy, I have no idea what will be hot and where I should be suggesting they go ... any ideas ?

    E-Marketing, I hear where you are coming from with how technology changes, and I guess, I wasn't really looking for a technical answer.

    I know one thing all online marketers should be doing more of (and it was confirmed in the Inc. Magazine article, is that we should be talking to the market more. So some research to talk to the target market and see what they want from the net, do they trust e-commerce, do they really value the time saving etc ?

    My traditional marketing plans usually focus around new aquisitions, retention and "wallet growth", I guess what I am looking for is how does that transulate to a digital world, and how might that change over the next 5 years.

    Do you all expect more e-sales over the next 5 years, any maturity or decline.
    Whats the most cost effective online marketing? Anything I should be steering clear of ?
