Market Self To Sing At Corporate Events?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am Tim Patrick, a world-class Sinatra-style singer, with a web site at www.timpatrickmusic.com. I would like to start marketing myself to corporations in Minnesota but I don't know how to do it. I just got done mailing out demo discs to event planners (a couple of which are located at corporations) but that cost me about $3 each (envelope, disc, stamps, etc.). I know it is cheaper to email human resource depts. but don't know how to get their email addresses. If I do a direct mailing to them, then I need to figure out how to get those addresses. Can I get them electronically? I need your thoughts on the pros and cons for marketing either direct or emailing and how to do it specifically (like: go to the library and check out this book which contains the addresses you need, whether they are direct or email address, etc.) Can anyone help me?

    1) Create videos of yourself singing, and upload to YouTube (etc.) Make sure that your website is clearly shown on the video. Think of it as your 30 second ad.

    2) Target event planners and entertainment booking companies (that book everyone from singers, dancers, jugglers, clowns, etc.). Here are some in your area:

Don't simply send out your CD/DVD unasked. First make contact with each organization and find out their procedure. Follow it. Then follow up with them a week later.

If you have something online you can send to HR departments it's not difficult to get the e-mail address.

But as Jay said, it may not be the best way to market your skills. Event planners also don't want discs.....too many chances of viruses. Better to do a link....to a well known site like YouTube.

Of course it wouldn't hurt to hit the local Italian restaurant for parties....caterers might also be a place to go.

    Hi Tim,

Definitely posting videos on YouTube and on your own website is what you want to be doing.

Here is help on doing it with YouTube, it is quite easy:

Here are some other video sites:

I don't think email is a good marketing tool for you at this time as you don't have your own list and to blind email a list regardless of how you obtained it is questionably spammy, depending on how you do it, and your results will be abysmal.

The best lists are home-grown organic.

It would be better to do it the old-fashioned way: pick up the phone for some personal contact with event planners and booking companies then follow-up with a brief letter (which could now be an email, with a link to your videos).

Once you have their attention, marketing to them will be a lot easier and a lot cheaper.

BTW, your MySpace link on your website is not working.

First, you will need an electronic press kit (EPK). An electronic press kit contains a biography, photographs, press clips, and music. It would also be very helpful to include live performance footage in your EPK. You can also use an EPK to market yourself as a live performer to nightclubs, festivals, and concert promoters. Ultra Entertainment [www.UltraEntertainment.com] creates EPKs for as low as $499.00.
